"This is not who I am": The Art and Design of David Arruda, Jr.at New Bedford Art Museum September 12 - December 1, 2024
New Bedford, MA, USA – September 9, 2024– Fiber Optic Center, Inc., (FOC), an international leading distributor specializing in helping their customers make the best cable assemblies in the world, announces "This is not who I am": The Art and Design of David Arruda, Jr.art exhibition presented by Fiber Optic Center and Whaling City Sound and curated by Neal Weiss, Founder of Fiber Optic Center, Inc.and President of Whaling City Sound.
"This is not who I am": The Art and Design of David Arruda, Jr.(TINWIA ) will run at the New Bedford Art Museum September 12 - December 1, 2024.TINWIA is a striking and thoughtful combination of commercial high-tech advertising, jazz concert posters, music CD package designs, a wide range of photography and unique t-shirt designs making this a deep dive into the work of David Arruda, Jr.who has held the position of position graphic designer for Whaling City Sound and Fiber Optic Center, where he has worked for 25 years.
The full-page, full color advertisements appeared in fiber optic print trade magazines in the 2000s, at a time when comparable ads were generally templated, consisting of a photo of a product, often a box, along with technical specifications.Mr.Arruda's work impacted the industry style of advertising with use of humor at times, and on others, offering direct communication to the audience in a style that was not then common.
The myriad of items provide an experience of a thinker, designer, photographer and artist who shared his eye with a varied audience, sometimes practical, offbeat or quirky, and sometimes just himself.
The title of the exhibit was born from David's antipathy to being in the spotlight."I do not believe (my work) warranted any more recognition than anybody else who does whatever it is THEY do," Mr.Arruda said in his artist statement.
The full artist statement and story of this arrangement of exhibit and work can be found in the article,Lighting the World Through Art and Impact.
Art is the universal visual language crossing language and cultural barriers. The TINWIA exhibit intends to enlighten its audience with the benefits of individualism, self-expression and self-awareness through a history of one artists journey illustrated in various art forms.
