Perseverance and Passion is the Fiber Optic Center Corporate Citizen Way: Zane is onto the Chicago Marathon
This Sunday, otherwise known as 10/10, is an exciting day at FOC.Our own Zane Fitzgerald is running the 2021 Chicago Marathon and we are very proud. This run is the definition of perseverance in multiple layers.
We first announced Zane's commitment to marathon training and fundraising for the Herren Project with a commitment to the Boston Marathon back in January 2020.The Herren Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation, supports treatment, recovery, prevention and outreach for those affected by addiction and substance use.
The FOC Corporate Citizen program sponsored Zane for that marathon with updates on his journey, training and fundraising campaign. As we all know now, due to the pandemic, the Boston Marathon was canceled and recreated as a virtual event. For more on Zane's completion of those 26.2 miles and reinforced commitment to his charity that had found itself in even greater need during the pandemic, read Keeping Pace Over the Hurdles – Our Corporate Citizen and the Boston Marathon (Keeping Pace Over the Hurdles - Our Corporate Citizen and the Boston Marathon - Fiber Optic Center (www.spnnc.com))
Chicago in 2021
This is an uplifting story that continues to inspire as Zane prepares to run the 2021 43rd Chicago Marathon on this Sunday, October 10, 2021, sponsored by FOC Corporate Citizen.
The event is symbolic of hope and rebirth as the 2020 Chicago Marathon was also canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which makes Sunday the first edition of the Chicago Marathon to take place after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Zane is a positive example that we can look to during these difficult times. He is a person who has continued to work long hours, train relentlessly every day, draw on strength from the understanding that others are in great need and share passion about that cause and perspective.
FOC's Corporate Citizen continues to sponsor Zane's journey to make a difference both inside and outside of Fiber Optic Center's business.
Zane noted, "This cause is so important to me and everyone's support is what fuels me in those late miles when quitting seems like an option."
